Campaign Update: Finances and Endorsements
August 12, 2010—With little over a month to go before September 14, the primary season is in full swing and the Mendelson campaign is going strong. Two days ago, Phil filed his August financial statement with the Office of Campaign Finance. I’m very pleased to report that he has raised more than $50,000 since June 10 and has almost five times the amount of cash on hand as his opponent—well on the way to ensuring the success of this campaign’s voter outreach effort.
During the past two weeks, Phil has received several more important endorsements including:
-
DC Chamber of Commerce
-
Current Newspapers
-
both the Washington, DC Association of Realtors and TENAC
-
both the DC Hotel and Restaurant Workers and the DC Hotel Association!
-
And yesterday, the Fraternal Order of Police, representing the Metropolitan Police Department’s 3,600 police officers, detectives and sergeants, also endorsed Phil. Here's a bit of what they had to say about Phil:
“Over the past three years Phil Mendelson has emerged as one of the few Councilmembers willing to demand accountability and answers from the Administration. Phil has challenged questionable actions by Attorney General Peter Nickles, a series of inappropriate contracts and relationships, and the troubling lack of transparency that has become the unfortunate hall mark of this Administration. As a councilmember, Phil has served as a countervailing force, defending the law, process and the rights of District citizens and public safety workers.”
“Phil Mendelson is a committed and engaged public servant. His reelection will assure continuity of a resolute and independent voice on the Council of the District of Columbia.”
Thank you, Fraternal Order of Police, MPD, for such a strong statement of support.
