The Washington Informer Endorses Phil!
Phil Mendelson should get another term because he is a strong voice for tenants’ rights, civil and human rights. He had the courage to be the chief critic on the D.C. Council of Fenty. Mendelson’s often non-confrontational manner on the Council has been mis-interpreted as weak but is instead wise, thoughtful and methodical. Mendelson’s opponents, Clark Ray and Michael D. Brown, have not made a compelling case to replace him on the Council.
Washington City Paper Endorses Phil!
WCP says: A legislative workhorse who shepherded initiatives like gay marriage into law, Mendelson is also kind of a quibbler, which can be irritating to mayors and other ambitious types. But he’s in a job that suits his persnickety skills.
Phil Rated a "Perfect +10" by the Gay and Lesbian Activists Alliance!
Democratic At-Large Councilmember Phil Mendelson earned a perfect +10 reflecting his extensive efforts in advancing the rights of LGBT people. Phil set the bar for the most extensive and detailed questionnaire demonstrating his in-depth knowledge of the issues and support of LGBT people in all areas. Phil is our greatest champion on the Council. He not only steered the marriage equality law through the council and greatly improved it. He wrote the marriage recognition bill, the domestic partnership parentage bill, a variety of domestic partnership laws, and personally testified before the Board of Elections and Ethics opposing four different ballot measures that would have banned marriages by same-sex couples. He carefully removed every obstacle in the law that would hinder our ability to defend marriage equality in court. More than anyone, Phil is responsible for the passage of the marriage law, and our ability to preserve it. Mendelson is a rare thing in this town in that he's not all about himself. He set aside his personal ambitions to work on a quiet strategy that created dramatic advances in the rights of same-sex couples without seeking publicity or the credit that he richly deserved and earned.

An estimated 100 or more members of the District's Muslim community and others attended Friday's forum including Muslim lawyers, religious leaders, physicians, taxi drivers, parents, teachers, and students. Nearly all of the candidates (all but 4 of 25) on the Democratic ballot for the Primary elections attended the forum.

August 22, 2010—Diego DiAmbrosio of Diego’s Hair Salon will be hosting a fundraiser for Phil Mendelson at his Dupont Circle Salon at 1901 Q Street, NW, from 10:00AM – 4:00PM. Finance Reports: Phil surges ahead of his opponents
August 12, 2010—With little over a month to go before September 14, the primary season is in full swing and the Mendelson campaign is going strong. Two days ago, Phil filed his August financial statement with the Office of Campaign Finance. I’m very pleased to report that he has raised more than $50,000 since June 10 and has almost five times the amount of cash on hand as his opponent—well on the way to ensuring the success of this campaign’s voter outreach effort.

Current Newspapers Endorse Phil
July 28, 2010—...[W]e found Mr. Mendelson far superior. The incumbent was able to identify problems, spell out solutions, and recognize that some desirable policies must wait for better financial times.
Such concerns have helped shape the council member's dogged oversight efforts as chair of the Committee on Public Safety and the Judiciary, such as his push to control overtime spending in the Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department.
We believe the choice in the Sept. 14 primary is clear. Mr. Mendelson deserves the Democratic nomination.
